Operation Market Garden Tour

Operation Market Garden was the ill-fated World War Two operation devised by General Bernard Montgomery to shorten the war in the autumn of 1944. It began with a ground assault by XXX Corps on the Belgian-Dutch border followed by simultaneous airborne drops by American and British Paratroop forces between Eindhoeven and Arnhem. We follow the ground troops along their original route and also examine the Battle for Arnhem Bridge and the idea of ‘A Bridge Too Far’.

4-Day Tour – Operation Market Garden

Day 1

Depart from your chosen UK pick-up point and travel to the port where a coach interchange will take place, you will then join your tour coach for the Channel crossing. On arrival on the Continent we continue to our hotel (passengers joining the tour in Europe will meet the group at the hotel this evening).

Day 2 – Joe’s Bridge to Nijmegen

We travel to Joe’s Bridge, the start position of the Guards Armoured Division at the beginning of Operation Market Garden. We look at the Irish Guards assault and see their graves at Valkenswaard War Cemetery. We then see the vast German cemetery at Ysselsteyn before visiting the impressive Overloon War Museum. After lunch, we resume the XXX Corps route at the Grave Bridge, before looking at the tough fighting for Nijmegen and the crossing of the Waal River by American Airborne forces. Continue to our hotel in Wolfheze for a two-night stay.
